Owner Davey Jones Celebrates 25 Years at Security Jewelry

By Geof Clark

Security Jewelry owner Davey Jones is celebrating his 25th year of operating the business, located at 356 Main St. in the Security Shopping Center, and he couldn’t be happier.

"I can’t believe it’s been 25 years," he said. "It’s been a great 25 years and I look forward to continuing to serve the area for many more years."

Jones, who was born and raised in Security and attended District 3 schools, took over the business July 1, 1986. He was living in the mountains and his parents lived in Security and he would come home to visit and one day he drove by the business and noticed a going out of business sign.

I’ve always been interested in rocks and jewelry and I went in and talked to the owner and made him an offer him he couldn’t refuse," Jones said. "It was great to be able to buy a business in the area where I grew up and my family lived."

Prior to buying the business, Jones had worked for other jewelers for several years. He said he enjoyed working for himself over the years.

"I was able to spend time with my kids when they were growing up which was very important to me," he said.

Security Jewelry is definitely a family-run business. Jones’ mother, Jerri, helps in the store.

Jones specializes in jewelry sales and repairs. He works with all types of jewelry including rings and chains.

"I do a lot of custom work," he said. "I pride myself on all my work."

The business is open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Mon.-Fri. The phone number is 390-8300.

Fountain Valley became a settlement in 1859 (founded by pioneers Tom Owens and Amos and Mary T Terrell.) They were soon joined by a third family, Mathias and Barbara Lock. Also founded in 1859 were Colorado City, Denver, Golden and Central City. The locals established a charter in 1871 and incorporated in 1903. Fountain is the oldest incorporated town in the Pikes Peak Region.
