LEROY WILLIAM SCHMIDT

LeRoy William Schmidt, age 84, passed away January 28, 2012, in Colorado Springs after a long illness.
He was born March 8, 1927, in LaPorte City, IA to William Albert and Josephine (Keegan) Schmidt who preceded him in death.
He married Charlotte Entriken September 13, 1957 in Colorado Springs, CO.
LeRoy joined the Army at the age of 17 and took his training at Camp Fanning, Texas. He served from 1944 to December 1947 in Italy. In 1950 he was recalled under the National Emergency Act to the Korean Conflict. He was wounded in Korea and discharged July 3, 1952.
He was employed by Civil Service at the Air Force Academy and awarded the “Million Mile Plaque” for driving a million miles without an accident. He retired in 1987 while living in Widefield and later moved to Calhan.
He was a member of the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church and the Disabled American Veterans.
He is survived by two sons, Dale Entriken (Jana) Schmidt of Hot Sulphur Springs, CO and William Frank Schmidt of Calhan, CO; six grandchildren, Dustin (Rebecca) Schmidt of Lawrence, KS; Kelsey (Steven) Deus of Casper, WY, Nicole Schmidt of Hot Sulphur Springs, Sarah Schmidt of Calhan and Courtney and Jessie Schmidt of Stockton, CA; a great granddaughter, Abigail Deus of Casper, and a great-grandson, Malcolm Schmidt of Lawrence.
Memorial Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 11, at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 1201 Leta Dr., Security.
