Please Dont Feed Your Pets "People" Food

Fountain Creek Veterinary Clinic answers community questions:

Last week I had a client ask me what human foods were good for her dog. This article is not as "personal" as I usually like to be, but I want to give very direct information on this topic.

PLEASE, especially with the Holidays coming up, review what foods are toxic or harmful for your pets and make sure all of the family understands the "risks" associated with feeding your pet these foods.

I’ve heard many times, "I just gave him a little bit of……….". We had a client whose husband "felt sorry for the dog at Thanksgiving for not getting some of the food" so he gave him the ham bone. He meant absolutely no harm as they both loved their dog dearly. When the vomiting, diarrhea, and lethargy began they brought him in to be checked. The diarrhea quickly turned to blood. Dr. Graf did lab work on their pet and diagnosed Pancreatitis. We immediately hospitalized him and began IV fluids and treatments. Unfortunately the conditioned worsened and we were not able to save their friend.

Also founded in 1859 were Colorado City, Denver, Golden and Central City. The locals established a charter in 1871 and incorporated in 1903. Fountain is the oldest incorporated town in the Pikes Peak Region.
