One person was killed in a motorcycle-vehicle accident Thursday at the intersection of Fountain Mesa Road and Fortman Ave.

According to Sgt. D. Scott Gilbertsen, Public Information Officer for the Fountain Police Department, at approximately 6:50 p.m., personnel from the Fountain Police Department, the City of Fountain Fire Department and the police department’s Accident Reconstruction Team, responded to the intersection to investigate a traffic accident.

Sgt. Gilbertsen said personnel arrived on scene and learned a motorcycle, operated by Onesimo “Oney” Vigil, 68, was traveling southbound on Fountain Mesa Road and attempted to cross the intersection with Fortman Avenue and Caballero Avenue. An SUV driven by Thomas Northern, 90, was traveling northbound on Fountain Mesa Road and made a westbound turn on to Caballero Avenue, at which time the motorcycle and SUV collided.

Vigil suffered critical injuries and died at the scene. Northern was not injured in the accident.

According to Sgt. Gilbertsen, the incident is still under investigation at this time. Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the accident.
