Donna (Whalen) Koop

May 2, 1931 ~ January 31, 2018

Donna (Whalen) Koop, who was born May 2, 1931, at home in Fountain, died January 31, 2018.

She was welcomed into this world by attending physician "Doc" Hudson. Her parents were Herb and Eloise Whalen.

  Donna attended and graduated from Fountain High School in 1949. She had played the baritone in the band.

  After graduation she went to work at Colorado Springs National Bank. She then went on to work in several other banks as a bookkeeper.

On March 17, 1951, she married Arthur Koop. They had four children, Elaine, Robert, Elizabeth and Scott.

  Donna was the last charter member of the original First Security/Widefield Baptist Church, est. 1955. She had written Pastor Lewis Adkison's first paycheck out of seminary school. He then became the presiding pastor after Reverend Lee left the church. Being a faithful servant of the Lord, she followed the church as the treasurer and sang in the choir for many years. She also sang in the Colorado Springs Chorale.

  Donna enjoyed camping with her family. They belonged to the Good Sam Camping Club and had many adventures.

  She always enjoyed dining out with family and friends to reminisce.

  Another one of her hobbies was Colorado history. Every time she found a new book she just had to have it.

  Donna is survived by her daughters, Elaine MacKay of Fountain and Elizabeth Gregory of Colorado Springs; her son, Scott Koop of Colorado Springs; four grandchildren, Kenny and Kevin MacKay, Jennifer (Gregory) Ott and Laura (Gregory) Kirkpatrick and four great-grandchildren, Justin and Joshua (children of Jennifer) and Isaiah and Gabrielle (children of Laura) and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

  Preceding her in death were her parents, Herb and Eloise Whalen; her grandson, Jeffery MacKay; her son, Robert Koop; her husband, Arthur Koop, and her son-in-law, Ken MacKay.

 A viewing was held from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Monday, February 6, at Evergreen Funeral Home in Colorado Springs. A funeral followed at 1 p.m. Following a graveside service at Fairview Cemetery in Fountain, a gathering was held at the First United Methodist Church of Fountain.
