Utilities Director Says Agreement with Fountain Valley School on New Electric System a "Win-Win"

February 7, 2018

At its Jan. 23 meeting, the Fountain City Council approved Resolution 18-006, a Dedication and Transfer of Ownership Agreement regarding Electric Secondary Distribution at Fountain Valley School. Utilities Director Curtis Mitchell explained it is a win-win move for Fountain’s customers and the community.

He explained the school was currently on a primary meter system which has been a challenge to keep up to city standards. He said the school will bring its secondary electric distribution system up to code and will provide a new easement along Fontaine to the city. He said the agreement will change the school from the one primary meter to multiple (about 50) new meters at the school to the city’s electric system. He said collection of charges and fees from those new meters will provide cost recovery for maintenance of the system. Also, additional meters will allow the school to facilitate deployment of renewable energy and charging stations.

The next Fountain City Council meeting will be at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 13 at Fountain City Hall.
