Harlan's Red Tail Hawk

Today I'm going to highlight a Red Tail Hawk Subspecies. The Harlan's Red Tail Hawk is a subspecies of the more common Red Tail Hawks we see in El Paso County year round. Subspecies are usually a permanent geographically isolated race. Subspecies is a classification just below a species and can be found in many different animals. Red Tail hawks have several subspecies.

Although subspecies are usually permanent to geographical areas, some bird subspecies will migrate to breed or raise young. Harlan's Red Tails are specific to Alaska and Canada, but migrate to the western states of North A...
