Good Shepherd Church Easter Cantata & Palm Sunday Service

Jesus surrounded himself with people who, like us, had failings and shortcomings.

The events of Holy Week reveal the disciples’ human nature and weaknesses: Judas betrays Jesus for a pocketful of coins; the disciples sleep while Jesus agonizes in the garden; Peter’s anger causes him to take up a sword and strike the high priest’s slave; the chief priests act out of fear or jealousy of Jesus; Pilate’s willingness to hand over a man he believes to be innocent; and perhaps most poignant of all, Jesus’ own very human desire to escape the Crucifixion. And is it possible that even today, our own human nature, weaknesses, and failings cause us also to betray, deny, convict, and crucify again?

The Good Shepherd Chancel Choir has been hard at work on our new Easter Cantata. “Hope in the Shadows” retraces the final steps and journey of Jesus to the cross. It is a mixture of traditional and contemporary hymns and songs set in a variety of styles. You will enjoy the program as it focuses on our Savior’s sacrifice and the hope in the shadows to which we all cling.

Come and worship with us at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, March 25, and enjoy this awesome story in song as we begin Holy Week.

Mark your calendars to be with us during Holy Week. Thursday, March 29, is our Maundy Thursday Service at 7 p.m. We will meet again at 7 p.m. Friday, March 30, for our Good Friday Service.
