Teddy Harada Westcott

December 16, 1955-April 7, 2017

Teddy Westcott, a longtime Security resident, passed away April 7, 2017 after a long battle with end stage kidney disease.

He was born December 16, 1955 in Kumamoto, Japan. He came to Colorado Springs in 1958 and lived at Ft. Carson for three years and in Security since 1961.

He attended S.A. Wilson, Sproul Jr. High, and Widefield High School, graduating in 1974. For all 12 years, his attendance record was perfect except for one sick day in fifth grade. He played football since fifth grade and was on the Widefield varsity football team.

He joined the US Army in 1977 and served in the Army Security Agency. He attended the University of Northern Colorado and Pikes Peak Community College, earning Associates Degrees in electronics and auto mechanics.

He worked at Skyline Products as an electronics technician testing road sign message boards. He was a proud member of the Gold Prospectors of Colorado and enjoyed participating in contests and teaching gold panning techniques, especially to children. His happiest time in recent years was being in Breckenridge last summer with brother- in-law John Carr at the state gold panning contest. He also enjoyed fishing, cooking for friends, and going to Cripple Creek when he was able.

Teddy is survived by sisters Naomi and Rita/Lee Westcott of Colorado Springs, Mary (John) Carr of Kodiak, Alaska, and Donna Reil of Texas; cousins Mutsuko Yamanaka and Mayumi Yonemura in Japan, and their families.

His parents, Donald and Tazuko Westcott, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, April 13, at Dove-Witt Family Mortuary, 6630 South US Highway 85-87, Fountain, CO 80817. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 14, at Dove-Witt. Private interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Kidney Fund in Teddy’s honor.
