Fountain Valley YMCA employee Verity Welch did face painting at the organization's booth. Above, Emma Tuthill, a fourth grader at Aragon, has her face painted. She is the daughter of Dustin Peters and Crystal Tuthill of Fountain.

A Fountain Community Celebration was held recently on Main Street in front of Aragon Elementary School.

Kymani Jordan, 8, who attends Mesa Elementary, shows off one of the backpacks given to students attending the event. He is the son of Jerome and Shamara Jackson of Fountain.

Every Fountain-Fort Carson School District 8 school had a booth and representatives to talk to parents and students about their respective school.  Several community organizations, including the Fountain Valley YMCA, had booths and representatives on hand as well.

"We gave out 500 backpacks containing school supplies which were generously donated and had many more attendees in parents and community members," said Christy McGee, APR, Public Information Officer for FFC8, one of the supporting partners.  "This event looked new and was the first of its kind in this format, but it's an event that was built off what we have formerly done at Welte Education Center with providing parents access to resources to help prepare students and families for back to school time. That goal stayed the same but this year's event was bigger, had more partners involved and was outside to give it more of a community feel."

Other supporting partners included The Fountain Valley YMCA, Pikes Peak Library District-Fountain Branch, and Peak Vista Community Health Center.
