Widefield High School Philharmonic Orchestra's Winterfest Concert Series Announced

December 6, 2017

Over the next two weeks, the Widefield High School Philharmonic Orchestra is pleased to host a collaborative musical experience with two orchestras from Colorado Springs School District 11. Orchestra members from Mitchell and Palmer High Schools will join the Widefield High School students in rehearsals that culminate in a performance of “Capriol Suite” by Peter Warlock as a part of Widefield’s Winterfest concert series. The public is invited to the performance at 7 p.m. on Dec. 11, in the Widefield High School Auditorium.

In preparation for the concert, the students and teachers from the aforementioned schools have been delighted to partner with the Chamber Orchestra of the Springs. As a long-standing cultural anchor in Colorado, the Chamber Orchestra of the Springs is dedicated to creating and sharing exceptional musical experiences. Orchestra members from the Chamber Orchestra have made themselves available as resources and coaches for the groups as a part of the community outreach program. Widefield School District 3 and Colorado Springs School District 11 welcome Thomas Wilson as the guest conductor of the collaboration.

Mr. Wilson, a Widefield High School graduate, is currently the Music Director of the Chamber Orchestra of the Springs, Associate Conductor of the Colorado Springs Philharmonic, and Cover Conductor for the New York based pops show Symphonic Night at the Oscars. Mr. Wilson also serves as a music faculty member at Colorado College and the Colorado Springs Conservatory. An advocate for youth orchestra, Mr. Wilson also previously served as one of the conductors for the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony and founded the Young Concert Artists of Colorado Springs.
