This May 5, people from all over the world will flock to Louisville, Kentucky to celebrate the longest continuously run sporting event in the United States. Known as "The Greatest Two Minutes in Sports" the Kentucky Derby was first run in 1875 and has continued every year even during both World Wars. Also known as the "run for the roses" because of the blanket of 554 roses draped over the winner, this race is the first leg of the American Triple Crown and is followed by the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes.
