Betty Hunter McGrew, 91, of Colorado Springs, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 3, 2018.

Betty was born February 13, 1927 in Denver, Colorado. She married TJ McGrew December 5, 1953 in Denver, Colorado.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Edith.

Betty is survived by her children Thomas (Summer) McGrew, Dan (Joyce) McGrew, and Jon (Laura) McGrew; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a brother, William Hunter.

Betty was dedicated to children her entire life. She specifically chose to work in school districts to try to bring a better lunch quality to the kids. She was even more focused on her family; she adored spending time with her three sons and their families. She especially adored and spoiled her grandchildren.

Betty's entire career was based on serving others. She interned at King County Hospital in Seattle and Baylor Hospital in Dallas from 1951 to 1953. In 1956, she became the Director of Food Service in the schools. She started at the Missouri School of Mines, and then at Colorado College, Cheyenne Mountain School District #12, and retired from Pueblo County School District #70 in 1993.

Post retirement, Betty served as a Cheyenne Mountain Zoo docent, and worked at the Bargain Box, continuing her service to children. She was very kind and always put others before herself. She will be missed tremendously.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at the Black Forest Community Church, 6845 Shoup Rd., in Colorado Springs.
