Juneteenth

 

June the 19th marks a special page in our country's history. It is the end of one chapter and the beginning of another in our continuing efforts to see justice fully realized in the world we live in today. Juneteenth, or Emancipation Day, is one of our nation's oldest celebrations commemorating the end of slavery in the United States.

For those who have come looking for it, the West has always held the promise of a better life, and our state's history of inclusion and social mobility stands out among the rest. After the Civil War, many freed slaves headed West to find better lives for thems...
