Common Nighthawk

Common Nighthawks can often be seen resting on flat fence posts.

If you've played sports under the park lights at night,

there a good chance you've seen Nighthawks gracefully

flying around. The Nighthawk is mostly nocturnal. You

can look for them flying around in the mornings and evenings

but rarely are they seen during daylight hours in

flight.

They are very well camouflaged and roost motionless

during the day. As in a couple of these pictures, they can

be found resting on fence posts or on the ground and can

be very easily missed. Most people say they remember

them from playing sports at night under the lights.

Nighthawks can be found soaring for bugs...
