Korean War Armistice Day Commemoration is July 21

The 66th Anniversary of the Korean War Armistice will be observed Saturday, July 21, at 10:30 a.m. at Memorial Park, 300 S. Union Blvd. in Colorado Springs.

Major General (U.S. Air Force Retired) Mason Whitney will be the honored guest speaker at a ceremony commemorating the 66th anniversary of the Korean War Armistice.

Sponsored by The Dutch Nelsen Chapter, Korean War Veterans Association Of Colorado Springs, the ceremony will be held in front of the chapter’s monument in Memorial Park.

Major General Whitney has 6,000 flight hours, including 343 combat missions in the Vietnam War. He was Commander of the 140th fighter wing at Buckley A.N.G. Base, Adjutant General of the State of Colorado, and Director of Homeland Security for Colorado.

The program will include an ensemble from the 4th Division and Fort Carson band playing patriotic music. The colors will be presented by the Widefield High School Junior ROTC detachment under the supervision of Major Mark Davis (U.S.M.C., Retired).

Wreaths will be presented in front of the Korean War Monument in honor of those who served in the war, those killed in action, and those who remain missing in action.

Among the honored guests will be James Mcgibney, Honorary Consul Emeritus for the Republic Of Korea, representatives of the Colorado Springs and El Paso County governments and leaders of Colorado’s Korean business and diplomatic community.

Dutch Nelsen Chapter President Stan Galloway announced that the public is encouraged to attend, particularly military and veterans of the community.
