Well, surely we have all seen these little cuties while we were out walking on the trails or sitting in the park. Black-capped chickadees are part of the Tit family of birds and it is the state bird of both Maine and Massachusetts.

They are among the smallest birds in our area. They are about the size of a sparrow or finch. They are very compact and have a very small bill, much like a Junco. What they lack in size, they make up for in tenacity. They are a very active, jittery bird. They certainly don't sit still very long which can make them hard to photograph.
