Groundbreaking for New Security Sanitation District Wastewater Treatment Plant

A ground-breaking ceremony for a new Security Sanitation District plant was held Thursday at the location of the current plant, 6510 Southmoor Dr.

"The district is embarking on an upgrade of its wastewater treatment plant," said Security Water and Sanitation Districts General Manager Roy Heald. "The current plant was built in 1954 and had its last major upgrade in the late 1980s."

Heald said that used water from homes, schools and offices must be treated to meet required standards before it is released back into the environment. The primary function of wastewater treatment is to speed up...
