New Hawks in Town!

Harlan's Hawk

Fall migration is winding down. You may get lucky and find a few last minute travelers. We are lucky to be the migration destination for very beautiful raptors. Today, I'd like to talk about a couple of my favorites.

The largest of the hawks in North America is the Ferruginous Hawk. The other wintering visitor is the beautiful Harlan's Red Tail Hawk. Ferruginous hawks spend the summer a bit farther north. Although some Ferruginous Hawks stay in our area year round, it seems rare to see them.
