The Modern Airport

In past columns I have told of the opening of the airport, and how it became Peterson Field during World War II. After the war, like the dozens of airfields built for training military pilots, Peterson was closed, and in 1948, ownership was returned to Colorado Springs. Most of the old barracks buildings, and related structures were sold and removed. What had been the warehouse area, served by the Rock Island Railroad, remained.
