A Day to Honor Our Veterans

On May 13, 1938, Congress, commemorating the signing of the armistice between the Allies and Germany, passed an Act, (52 Stat. 351, 5 U.S. Code, Sec. 87a), recognizing the 11th of November as a legal holiday. Celebrated on November 11th throughout our nation, the date was chosen in recognition of the end of major hostilities of World War I. It was at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 that the Armistice with Germany went into effect.
