Good Shepherd United Methodist Church Advent Study

November 14, 2018

The Highly Acclaimed Church-wide Advent Study by Adam Hamilton begins at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church this coming Sunday, Nov. 18. Here are a few thoughts from Senior Pastor Terilynn Russ.

A mother was telling her three children the story of the nativity and how the Wise Men brought gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh for the baby Jesus when her six year old daughter interrupted. “Mom, a Wise Woman would have brought diapers!”

Starting a family two thousand years ago was drastically different than it is today. To be nine months pregnant and forced to travel for at least nine days insured a hazardous pilgrimage. Mary and Joseph traveled from Nazareth to Bethlehem because they were legally constrained. Do you remember why?

Rev. Adam Hamilton’s Advent examination called The Journey: Walking the Road to Bethlehem is the best Advent church-wide study ever, in my opinion. The reflection includes five lessons with Rev. Hamilton leading learners through the Holy Land, sharing historical and archaeological information.

I’ll begin preaching and leading the study beginning Sunday, Nov. 18, so we can be completed by the Sunday before Christmas Eve. Join us for this study and worship services at 9:30 a.m every Sunday and you can join the Insights Adult Sunday school class for discussions at 11 a.m. each Sunday .

The advent study books are available now at the Welcome Center. A donation of $10 is appreciated. I’m excited about learning with you a new perspective on the biblical events leading up to Christ’s birth. Serving Christ is an adventure!
