December 12, 2018

The Fountain Valley Singers will present “The Joy of Christmas,” at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at, St. Raphael’s Episcopal Church, 802 Leta Drive in Security. The concert is free. Cash donations, non-perishable food and miscellaneous items for the church’s food pantry will be accepted.

The Christmas Program includes music from Handel’s Messiah, traditional carols, Christmas spirituals, and some sing-a-longs for the audience. Following the concert, all attendees are invited to attend a reception in the Parish Hall.

“Come join us for music and fellowship,” a spokesperson said.

St. Raphael’s Food Pantry is a vital ministry of the church. On an average Friday, 42 families from the local community are given boxes of food, etc., to supplement their groceries for the week.

This past Friday, the pantry fed 153 people, of which 31 were children, 53 seniors, and 69 additional adults. No one is turned away, and each week new families come for assistance.

“During Christmas, the pantry also has a Christmas giveaway for these families,” the spokesperson said. “At this Christmas Concert, cash donations, non perishable food items along with new toys, games, gloves, socks, and gift items for all ages will be graciously accepted. “It does take a village.”

The Fountain Valley Singers is an all volunteer community choir directed by Judith Westcott. Members rehearse from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesdays at the church.
