Tonnie M. Connell

January 29, 1930-December 3, 2018

Tomie M. Connell, 88, formerly of Security and Colorado Springs, passed away peacefully with loved ones Monday, December 3, 2018.

Tomie was born January 29, 1930, in Toyama, Japan, to Yoshihiro and Kotoe (Yamazak) Matsunaga where she grew up and lived until she met James Isiah Connell, Jr. after the war and they married in 1953.

After a career serving the US Army, Jimmie and Tomieowned and operated a Skelly gas station in Colorado Springs located across from the ENT Air Force Base. She also worked for the Current stationary and paper goods factory. The most important job she held was being the very best mom and wife to a family who loved her dearly.

Tomie volunteered and participated at the Fountain Valley Senior Center and Cheyenne Place where she made a lot of friends. Tomie was well known for her feisty yet good sense of humor. She loved to laugh, play bingo, go to "the Mountain" (aka Cripple Creek) and played a mean game of crazy Uno, Phase 10, and cribbage.

She was well known as an excellent Japanese cook and would encourage anyone who visited to eat even when they were full. Visitors never left her place without some food or at the very least candy in hand. She will be greatly missed and was grandly loved by many whose hearts are breaking for losing her but can smile because now she gets to be with many who have missed her and grandly loved her before we did.

The family who loved her and will someday see both their mom and dad are a son, Donald (Bonnie) Connell, and daughtersSusan (Mark) Melander, Carol (Chris) Hurley, and Linda (Mike) Moeder as well as seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The family who have awaited her and passed before her are her husband, her parents, a sister Atsuko, and a brother, Koichi ,as well as many others.

Private family services were held at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver. Memorial gifts may be made to the "Fountain Valley Senior Center" in care of Adamson Life Celebration Home, 2000 47th Ave., Greeley, CO 80634. Friends may leave condolences at AdamsonCares.com.

Tomie will live on in our hearts, minds, thoughts, prayers, and laughter forever. The family asks that in her honor laugh, laugh, laugh . . .
