Fountain Council Awards $2.8 Million Contract for Completion of Venetucci Blvd. to B Street

Zoning Request to Change Open Space To Commercial Passed On First Reading At its meeting on Jan. 8, the Fountain City Council voted 6-1 to approve a zoning change request (on first reading) for the property on the northwest corner of this intersection of Mesa Ridge Parkway and Syracuse Street in Widefield. The request is to change the site from Parks/Open Space to Regional Commercial, with plans for a convenience store and possible gas station there across from Mesa Ridge High School. School District 3 officials have expressed concerns about safety of students and the heavy traffic that fills the area during peak times of the day. The issue will return to the city council for a second vote in the future. The date for that meeting is not yet available. See related "Patricia's Point"

At its Jan. 8 meeting the Fountain City Council approved a resolution awarding a contract of $2,816,225 to Wildcat Construction Co., Inc. for construction of a Venetucci Boulevard extension to B Street. The road, which passes in front of the Wal-Mart and Sams shopping center west of I-25 and north of Academy Blvd. presently ends at a roundabout on the north side of the property. This contract will provide for completion of the road providing a new means of access to the shopping center from B Street.
