Fabled author Harper Lee, in her book To Kill a Mockingbird, emphasized the need for her readers to be able to walk around in another's shoes, to put on their skin to see how it feels, and to view things from someone else's porch. This book of the 20th Century, as proclaimed by the American Library Association, taught the importance of being able to see things from someone else's perspective.
