Sombrero Ranch 60th Annual Great American Horse Drive, a Colorado Tradition

The Sombrero Ranch 60th Annual Great American Horse Drive took place May 4-5 near Maybell, Colorado. Pictured are some of the ranch horses galloping over a bridge the first day of the drive.

Working cowboys and cowgirls, and guest riders moved several hundred ranch horses over 60 miles during the two-day, 60th Annual Great American Horse Drive held May 4 and 5 near Maybell, Colorado.

The Sombrero Horse Drive has become an annual tradition. People from all over come to the little town of Maybell the second day of the drive to watch the horses as they run through town.

Days prior to the horse drive, wranglers gather Sombrero Ranch horses from a vast open range where the horses spend the winter months, located in a remote area of northwestern Colorado not far from the Utah border...
