Learning to Fly

These juvenile siblings are learning to fly.

This is the best time of year to get out and watch for the many different raptor

babies learning to fly and hunt. These birds grow so very fast. They seem to go

from babies in the nest to full grown raptors in the blink of an eye.

The Cooper's Hawks in today's column are from the Fountain Creek Nature

Center. They hatched in the last week of April this year and the babies already

look like adult hawks. This year, the Cooper's had three babies. If you are able to

get a close look, you will easily be able to tell the adults from the young. I have
