Due to growing population and enrollment, along with facing the complications of an aging building, Fountain-Fort Carson School District 8 made the decision in the spring of 2019 to remodel and renovate Mesa Elementary School.

Construction work began the summer of 2019 with the demolition of four classrooms and office space on the west side of the old building. Modular classrooms were installed and will house two grade levels throughout the construction timeline. With demolition complete, this fall parents and community members will see crews building a new, two-story wing that will include a state-of-the-art cafeteria and new classrooms. This wing is scheduled to be complete in December 2020, along with additional playground space at the school.

In January 2021, construction crews will begin renovating the middle square of the current main building, just east of where construction is occurring now. This work is scheduled to be complete in August 2021. Finally, in August 2021, renovation work will begin on the main office as well as some work on the gymnasium.

The newly renovated school will hold a capacity of over 700 students to accommodate for growth in the future. It will also have some great new features including: natural light in every room, a state-of-the-art cafeteria with new appliances and audio-visual equipment for events, a new library and classrooms with flexible seating, a new art room with outdoor space, and a STEM lab and building space.

Based on the timeline, parents and the community will be impacted in the near future. The school and district are grateful for the patience and cooperation of everyone in the neighborhood as work gets underway on this incredible new facility that will support student success for many years to come.
