Down at the Depot

I have done several columns about the two railroad stations here in Fountain, but I ran across this event and thought I would share it with you today.
In the 1950s the railroad passenger service was about gone. There were only five passenger trains a day, and they were mainly during daylight hours. The trains only stopped at the little Santa Fe station if there were passengers to pick up or leave. Its location, just south of Illinois, was out of the way, even from cars on the highway, which was Santa Fe Street at that time.
