Elk Mating Season Begins as Leaves Turn to Gold

This mature bull elk is pictured bugling indicating to other nearby bulls, who might attempt to sneak off with some of his cows, that he is the ruler of his harem. He had just dug his massive set of antlers into the mud and grass in a display of bravado.

The fall colors in the mountains peaked in many areas this past weekend and the wildlife are busy preparing for winter.
