At the October 8th city council meeting, an extremely important question was being asked of our city council. Should the city ban temporary signs in public right of ways or should they be allowed? In 2005 the United States Supreme Court, in the case of Reed vs. the Town of Gilbert, ruled that municipal sign ordinances cannot prohibit political or ideological signs while allowing other signs in the same areas. They ruled that sign ordinances must be content neutral, meaning you cannot ban some content while allowing others. To put it plainly, the Supreme Court ruled we cannot allow signs...
