As long as I am doing some ancient history, ever heard of Charles Aiken? He came to Colorado in the early 1870s, and became famous for the animals here in this area. He studied animals, and back then his way of saving them was as a taxidermist! Yes, he stuffed animals. He had a little museum in downtown Colorado Springs, but he also sold examples of his skill. You may have even seen some of them. He even sent samples all over the world, but the best collection is at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC.
