Street Tax Fails; Council, School Boards See Change

Fountain voters in the Nov. 5 election rejected a ballot initiative that officials say was critical to fixing city streets.

They also voted in a few new faces to the City Council - Detra Duncan and Tamara Estes.

Failing 2,557 votes to 1,887, 2A would have allowed for a sales tax of .70 percent in Fountain.

The tangible increase actually would have been less – .35 percent – because an existing .35 percent of the street tax approved in 2009 will expire, or sunset, after this year. The increase would account for the expiring portion and add another .35 percent, again expiring in 10 more y...
