At approximately 8:20 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, officers with the Fountain Police Department were dispatched to Auto Zone, located at 100 Plaza Drive, on a report of a stolen utility truck.

According to a police department spokesperson, while the suspect was driving the stolen truck, the crane portion of the truck swung out of control and struck a school bus which was occupied by 17 students. No one sustained any injuries during this incident.

A short time later, officers located the stolen truck in the area of Alegre Circle and Highway 85. However, the driver had fled the scene on foot. Officers conducted a search of the wooded area behind Alegre Circle and located the suspect. After a short foot chase, the suspect was taken into custody.

According to the spokesperson, the suspect has been identified as Sean Johnson, 21. He has been charged with three felonies: Aggravated Motor Vehicle Theft, Criminal Mischief and Theft. He has also been charged with several misdemeanors including seventeen counts of Reckless Endangerment.

"Thanks to the combined effort with our partners at the El Paso County Sheriff's Office and the Colorado State Patrol, the male was apprehended," the spokesperson said.
