Colorado Mountain Club announces events calendar for January-February

The Colorado Mountain Club has several community events for winter, with the upcoming Backcountry Film Festival, Inaugural Colorado Mountain Club Benefit Gala, and the CMC Film Series: Beyond Skiing Everest.

Wednesday, Jan. 15 – American Mountaineering Center - Colorado Mountain Club

Film Series: Beyond Skiing Everest

Join the Colorado Mountain Club on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020 at the American Mountaineering Center in Golden, Colorado for Beyond Skiing Everest, the story of Aspen locals progressing from mountaineering in Colorado to making the first American ski descent of an 8,000-meter peak and being inducted in the USA National Ski Hall of Fame. The event will have a full feature film documentary, a Q&A with the skiers, brothers Mike and Steve Marolt, prizes and drinks all supporting the Colorado Mountain Club. Tickers are $7 for CMC Members and $10 for the General Public.

Salida, Colorado Springs, Golden, Colorado - Backcountry Film Festival

The Backcountry Film Festival is produced by the Winter Wildlands Alliance as a celebration of the human-powered winter experience. Funds raised at each screening stay in the local community to support human-powered recreation and conservation efforts, winter education and avalanche/safety programs, and to raise awareness of winter management issues. Adventure, environment, and climate, youth outdoors, and ski culture are represented in this award-winning lineup. Tickets are $12 for CMC Members and $15 for the General Public.

Friday, Feb. 7 – The Hangar at Stanley Aurora, Colorado - Colorado Mountain Club Inaugural Benefit Gala

The Colorado Mountain Club Benefit Gala will help raise funds vital to CMC’s Youth and Adult Education Programs. The evening on Feb. 7 at the Hangar at Stanley Marketplace in Aurora, will feature a seated dinner, silent and live auctions, and mountaineering achievement awards. The night will be emceed by FOX31 meteorologist Chris Tomer, and the Keynote Speaker will be adventurer and Golden local, Erik Weihenmayer. Weihenmayer became the first blind person to climb Everest and subsequently completed the Seven Summits. Despite his blindness, Erik has climbed the Nose on El Capitan, the Diamond Face on Longs Peak, and kayaked the length of the Grand Canyon. Guest Tickets are $150 for Members and $250 for Non-Members. VIP Tickets are $250 for Members and $350 for non-members. VIP Tickets include a meet & greet with Erik, premiere seating, event goody bag and complimentary valet parking.
