Fountain City Council considers new tobacco regulations

The City Council has repealed a previous ordinance regulating tobacco sales and approved a new one in its place that not only complies with the new federal law raising the minimum age for purchasing tobacco products from 18 to 21, but allows for stricter regulation on the city level.

Every business selling tobacco products will be required to have a special license from the city, separate from its normal business license.

Council members had an in-depth discussion Feb. 25 about the new ordinance, which passed on first reading. It follows a federal regulation President Donald Trump approved...
