Soup Kitchen to implement new procedures

Last updated 4/29/2020 at 7:22am

The First United Methodist Church of Fountain soup kitchen, which serves meals from 4-6 p.m. every Friday, recently received some generous donations.

“We are truly thankfully for The Colorado Trust’s monetary gift to support our Meals-To-Go and for the many food donations provided by the Fountain Recycling Center,” a spokesperson said.

Currently, the dine-in area is not open. However, volunteers will bring to-go meals out to vehicles. Volunteers are serving around 100 meals a week, organizers said.

Starting this week, the program will follow new guidelines. Meals must be reserved by emailing or calling the church office and leaving a message no later than noon on Thursday. The meals can be picked up on Friday from 2-4 p.m. at the church, 1003 N. Santa Fe Ave.

Include the following information:

Your name and number of family members.

If you’re picking up a meal for someone else, leave their name and number of family members.

Whether or not you have transportation to get the meal. If not, leave your contact info and someone will get back to you.

Also new is the addition of extra food with each pickup, so the order should serve you for another two days or so.

Recipients are asked to return the containers provided so they can be sanitized and reused.
