Motorcycle deaths spike across state

This graph provided by CDOT shows statewide motorcycle fatalities by year since 2012. For the five-year period of 2014-2018, El Paso County had the second-highest total of fatalities in the state at 59.

So far this year, motorcycle deaths in Colorado are up 24 percent despite lower traffic volume.

In El Paso County, there have been four motorcycle fatalities so far this year, the most recent being May 2, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT). If that rate continues, the county will continue to have one of the highest numbers in the state.

Just last week the El Paso County Sheriff's Office announced the death of one of their deputies from an off-duty motorcycle crash in nearby Pueblo. Lt. Doug Lundstedt, 58, had been employed with the Sheriff's Office since 2003. He...
