Wildlife can be harmed when people try to 'help'

Each year, Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) receives an increase of calls and office visits from concerned people that report they "rescued" young wildlife that appeared "abandoned" by adult animals. Often, they bring the young wildlife into a CPW office, requiring us to send it to a rehabber.

Many people wrongly believe they are "helping" young animals by picking them up, taking them home and trying to feed them. It is critical that people understand there is no substitute for an animal's natural parent and diet.
