Curtis Mitchell is retiring as Fountain's utilities director after 11 years with the city and 44 years in the profession.

Curtis Mitchell is retiring as Fountain's utilities director after 11 years with the city. But as invested as he is in some of the ongoing challenges and projects he's faced here, don't expect him to disappear completely.

"I can't just walk away from this," he said.

Mitchell's last day will be sometime next week, as he completes the transition to incoming Utilities Director Dan Blankenship. He will take some time off to travel, but the foreseeable future includes plans for part-time consulting and advocacy for local utility issues on various boards and commissions.
