In Loving Memory of Dirk Conrad Carstens

Dirk Conrad Carstens, 66, passed away February 29, 2020, after a lengthy illness.

Dirk was born May 30, 1953 in Huntington Park, Calif. to Leonard C. and Helen C. Carstens. In 1971, Dirk graduated from Fountain-Fort Carson High School in Fountain, Colo., and in 1983 graduated from the Norfolk State University, Va., where he received his Bachelor's of Science as a Registered Nurse.

On October 20, 1979, Dirk was united in marriage to Dianne Neusom in Virginia Beach. Their only child, Derick Carstens, was born in December, 1980.

Dirk joined the United States Navy May 20, 1972, thru Aug. 25, 1981. He served on the Gold Team of the Henry L. Stinison SSBN 655 as an MT1. Dirk was a volunteer with the fire rescue team at Station 4, Virginia Beach. After graduating from Norfolk State University, Dirk worked in the ICU of Riverside Regional Hospital until he retired in 1998.

Dirk was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dianne, and both of his parents. Those left behind to honor his memory are his son, Derick, of Portsmouth, Va.; sisters, Linda Carstens of Fountain, Colo., and Tonia McKenzie of Federal Way, Wash.; four nieces, six great-nieces and nephews, and five great-great nieces and nephews.

Memorial services are pending due to the current COVID-19 situation. Altmeyer Funeral Home, Virginia Beach, is handling arrangements. A GoFund Me account has been set up at Derick Carsten's Support organized by Carol Hepburn.
