Sgt. Rios and other soldiers provided logistics and sustainment support to 1st SBCT's EDRE and to the brigade's upcoming rotation to the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, Calif.

An Emergency Deployment Readiness Exercise (EDRE) began last Wednesday morning, July 15, at Fort Carson to test the installation's capability to alert, recall and deploy a brigade-size element under emergency conditions.

The EDRE, directed by Maj. Gen. Matthew McFarlane, 4th Infantry Division and Fort Carson commanding general, will assess the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division and Fort Carson's ability to rapidly deploy with little or no advanced notice.

EDRE's are routine training events in the U.S. Army and are not related to any ongoing political or military situat...
