Veterans cemetery progressing

New construction and landscaping at Pikes Peak National Cemetery are taking shape.

The newest phase of the veterans' cemetery in Colorado Springs is almost finished. Pikes Peak National Cemetery, 10545 Drennan Road, opened its first phase in the fall of 2018, and work has continued on subsequent development – with completion scheduled for this month.

According to the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs' (VA) website, the department purchased the land in January 2014. The cemetery covers 374 acres total, with the capacity to serve more than 95,000 veterans. The site was planned to not only include spaces for in-ground burials, but also a columbarium for storing cremated...
