Because you asked: COVID-19 protocols for residential neighborhoods

Waste workers are following social distancing measures and wearing masks as they go about their usual routines. It is not believed that they represent a high risk, since COVID doesn't seem to survive very long on surfaces.

A Fountain resident contacted the paper recently after learning a neighbor had COVID-19. The reader was unsure how this impacts people living next to the neighbor, and whether to be concerned about the virus spreading through people who deliver things to the neighborhoods (such as people who collect packages or trash).

Michelle Hewitt, public information officer for El Paso County Public Health (EPCPH), explained that anyone within 6 feet of someone who has COVID for more than 15 minutes is considered exposed and needs to quarantine. EPCPH has case investigators to notify people that they'v...
