Eleanor Hayes proudly displays a zucchini from her family's backyard garden in Widefield. The Fountain Valley News' annual zucchini contest officially begins today.

This paper's annual zucchini contest kicks off today, Sept. 9. The contest is open to everyone, and there are two categories: the longest and the heaviest zucchini.

Long ago the News staff took the contest over when a local garden center announced it was discontinuing the contest.

You may bring up to three entries by the News office (120 E. Ohio Ave., Fountain), to have them weighed and measured. Hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Thursday, and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday.

The contest will continue through noon on Friday, Sept. 18, with winners announced in the next issue (Sept. 23). Photos of the winners will be featured in this paper and also on our Facebook page (see Fountain Valley News).

For more information, please call the News office at 382-5611. Good luck, green thumbs!
