Fountain considers electric rate hike

With load on Fountain’s electric grid increasing at a rate of 2.9 percent a year, and transformers at 85-90 percent capacity already, utility officials are proposing a 4-percent rate increase in January to help pay for added infrastructure.

If approved, the typical residential customer’s bill would go up about $3.39 a month. However, officials say that most bills – even at the higher rate – would still be lower than they were back in 2014 and would continue to be the lowest electric rates in the region.
