Susan Kircher hopes to get a team of 10 or more people together who can launch a sustainable local initiative in 90 days.

Fountain resident Susan Kircher has started a new group called Fountain Together, with the goal of getting at least 10 people who can initiate and carry out a worthy project for the community. Kircher indicated she hopes the group will be sustainable and available to address any unexpected needs in the future.

"If an emergency comes up, we'll already have a group together to address it," Kircher said. "Also, I want the group to be viable into the future, work on more than one project at a time and work on the things important to the team members."

Kircher was inspired to start Fountain Together after reading the book "Climate Action Challenge" by Joan Gregerson. Gregerson outlines a 90-day plan for launching a local eco-initiative. Gregerson's organization, the Green Team Academy, has stated their goal is to assist in launching 1,000 environmental or community initiatives from September-November 2020.

Fountain resident Susan Kircher has been handing out these cards to businesses across town, encouraging people to get out and vote this upcoming election. Kircher said she expected some pushback when she started, but to her surprise has received plenty of positive responses so far.

Kircher is already involved in another initiative to promote community awareness, handing out GoVoteColorado.gov fliers at local businesses encouraging people to vote. She's gotten lots of positive feedback from that endeavor, and is looking forward to the response she'll get from Fountain Together.

Fountain Together had its first meeting over Zoom on Sept. 13, a meet-and-greet to "get to know each other and discuss ways to make the environment in Fountain better."

During the meeting, the group set several goals. Short-term, they intend to plant 100 trees in Fountain by Dec. 4. Long-term, they want to bring a food store into the Olde Town/downtown area, and look into getting a Fountain swimming pool. The group is also compiling research for both a compost program and a food waste production program.
