This year two principals in Fountain-Fort Carson School District 8 were selected for awards from the Colorado Association of School Executives (CASE). Patriot Elementary School principal Michelle Canon was named the 2020 Colorado Rookie of the Year for Elementary Schools by CASE and the Colorado Association of Elementary School Principals (CAESP). She has been the principal at Patriot Elementary School, on Fort Carson, for three years.

Dr. William Dallas, principal at Fountain Middle School, was named the 2020 Colorado Middle Level Principal of the Year by CASE and the Colorado Association of Secondary School Principals (CASSP). Dallas will also represent Colorado as the state nominee for National Secondary School Principal of the Year.

Both Canon and Dallas were selected for each honor by their peers through a rigorous and competitive process facilitated by CAESP and CASSP, respectively.

Given that these awards were announced in May, when the pandemic was at its height, district administration at Fountain-Fort Carson School District 8 wanted to recognize both principals this fall, in a safe way that honored their work and commitment to their schools.  An outdoor assembly was held at each school location on Oct. 2. October is also National Principals Month.
