Tree sculpture brings joy to area resident

This sculpture in Deb McCloskey's yard was made from a 6-foot-high, 30-foot-wide cottonwood stump.

When Deb McCloskey moved to her Widefield home in the 1980s, one of the big attractions was the majestic cottonwood tree in the front yard. McCloskey recalls it was perhaps 65 feet tall.

"My kids and the kids in the neighborhood grew up climbing this tree," McCloskey recalled. "The branches were like stepping stones all the way up to the top. The tree had been here since the 50s and was one of the largest in the neighborhood."
